CALL TO ORDER
REPRESENTATIVE LESIL McGUIRE, Chair, convened the House Special
Committee on Economic Development, Trade and Tourism meeting at
5:13 p.m.
PRESENT
Committee members present were Representatives McGuire, Green,
Morgan, Dyson, and Crawford.
SUMMARY OF INFORMATION
SANDRA MOLLER, President and CEO, Aleut Enterprises, discussed
Adak's current socioeconomic situation and what is possible for
the future. She described Adak's position now as favorable and
she hopes that using some key resources and components of the
community will bring in more people and economic opportunities.
She would like to see Adak become a very important place for
people to use for international trade routes and that tourism
will add to the expanding economy.
CLEM TILLION, Associate, Aleut Enterprises, described some of
the opportunities that were there for trade involving seafood
and general export opportunities. He reiterated some of Ms.
Moller's comments about the area being used for international
trade. He discussed the possibilities of and barriers to the
construction of a prison.
REPRESENTATIVE DYSON inquired about the relocation of housing
units and its progress. Also, he wanted to know if there are
certain archeological sites that still exist.
REPRESENTATIVE GREEN inquired about the way in which the
underground fuel storage standards were able to be met. Also,
he wanted to know about the use of the old barracks in terms of
their being made into a prison.
REPRESENTATIVE CRAWFORD wanted to know about the types of planes
that fly into Adak.
CHAIR McGUIRE discussed Sakhalin and possible refueling in Adak
in the future.

Development, Trade and Tourism meeting at 5:44 p.m.
